Many people appreciate the benefits of having a regular medical check-up. It helps to make that everything is as it should be, and can highlight any areas giving cause for concern before they become a problem.

In today’s complex financial and business world. it is a good idea, vital if you are self employed, to apply this same same principle to your financials.

A good bookkeeper will, be able to advise you on how to make the most of your tax allowances – and offer reliable, professional help managing your personal and business finances.

Not only is it necessary to ensure that everything is accounted for in compliance with the various statutory requirements, it is also important to make the most of every opportunity to maximise your income and minimise your expenditure.

Also a good bookkeeper will keep a close eye on all the essentials for you you and offer proactive advice on how you can improve your personal, family, or business finances, and, in many cases recommend the necessary action to be taken before problems arise.

So if you are thinking of starting your own business, or already run your own business or even just to check that you are making the most of all your financial resources make of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

Are you a sub contractor?

Once you have confirmed that you are a sub contractor rather than an employee, your up and running

You will have paid your tax up front at 20%, and need to get your tax return done quickly in order to get any tax refunded to you.

My strong advice is to keep all your paper work

Payslip, Statement of Payment from your Contractor, Receipts from items such as Vehicle expenses, work clothes and tools. If your not sure keep it, and you can’t go wrong.

Get yourself a good bookkeeper rather than an accountant. Many of you think the return has to done by an accountant , but that is not the case. You just need to let HMRC know that he has your authorisation to work with them on your behalf. This can be easily obtained on line by your bookkeeper.

Good Luck

Self Employed – Keeping your Records

I can’t recommend it highly enough to self employed business owners, how important keeping good records is, but it tends to be ignored.

Keeping a good record of income coming in, and going out is very important to all parties. Yourself, your bookkeeper and not forgetting the HMRC. Keep hold of invoices and receipts

The HMRC can at any time ask to inspect the trail of records which could cause problems if they are unable to trace them.

A bookkeeper could obviously be charging you a higher fee if he has to sort out your records before he even starts. If you have to use an accountant the problem will be even more complex.

Go in to HMRC and have a look at their advice.

Many people appreciate the benefits of having a regular medical check up. It helps to make sure that everything is as it should, and can highlight any areas giving cause for concern before they become a problem.

Self employed people need to apply this principle to their finances especially when they have to have their tax returns completed by a good bookkeeper.

Not only is it necessary to ensure that everything is accounted for, it is also important to make the most of every opportunity to maximise your income and minimise your expenditure.

A good bookkeeper will keep a close eye on all the essentials for you and offer proactive advice on how you can improve all your finances.

If you are thinking of starting your own business, or need advice, a good bookkeeper will be able to help you, and explain a little about the dreaded HMRC.
